Washington Coast Chinook
Symposium ProceedingsCoastal Chinook Symposium
Hosted by Coast Salmon Partnership
October 8 – 9, 2025
Quinault Beach Resort & Casino, Ocean Shores, WA
Summary
The Coast Salmon Partnership convened over 60 experts from tribal, state, and local governments, NGO’s, academia, and more for a Coastal Chinook Symposium in October 2025. This two-day event provided a space for conversation among technical experts about coordinated recovery efforts, and helped us collectively take a broad view on the factors leading to some of the observed declines and the full suite of recovery actions available to us. On the first day (Oct 8th) we laid the foundation for fruitful discussion by inviting 12 experts to share their knowledge about the range-wide ecology of Chinook, and the status and trends in individual watersheds that make up the ESU. On day 2 (Oct 9th) we collectively synthesized the knowledge shared on day 1 to identify key factors to prioritize for future research projects and recovery actions.
Goals
- Identify the state of knowledge about the key factors that explain current status & trends in Chinook in diverse watersheds across the ESU
- Describe key uncertainties, assumptions, or data gaps that are worth resources to investigate because they will improve our ability to manage or recover Chinook
- Identify the full suite of potential actions to address identified data gaps or recovery factors that arise from discussions
Takeaways
A report drafted by CSP staff and the event Steering Committee will be available on this page soon.
